As a reminder I have accepted the challenge of creating a painting every day during this month of January...and it is just as threatening this go-round as the first time I attempted this assignment!
But, I like to have a reason to try something new, and this time I pushed myself even further. Today as I prepared to paint the flowers and the fruit, I placed an old painting behind the still life and jumped into adjusting the composition to my liking.
My poor pineapple and flowers have ended up in a landscape of sorts. But, I believe the bolt of straight cadmium red shocked both characters enough that I saved the day for them.
I realize now that my complementary opposites have kept the eye moving, as well as adding the push and pull necessary to support the main characters as the real focal points. But, maybe as I step back, the detail on the pineapple emphasizes the fruit, which does balance the lack of finer details throughout the rest of the image.
By adding more color, especially the brilliant red and softer whites, I guess I have stepped out of the "box" (ever so slightly, again). Go Figure!
