Yet again, a canvas with an under-painting, and this time, I decided it would be just fine to plop my new (same old, but wilting) still life right in the midst of the previous under-painting, a landscape no less! I think there is balance in this piece that comes from the push and the pull from top and bottom, as well as the placement of the flowers in close proximity.
I love to understand paintings, and when they are my own, it is really important to find values in the composition. I wonder, if I hadn’t told you the previous painting on this canvas was a landscape, would you have determined that fact on your own? I would enjoy hearing your answers and your comments.
