"No Laughing Matter," oil on canvas, 12 x 12"
Oh dear..."No Laughing Matter" sort of capsulizes my day. From one minute to the next nothing seemed to work just as I had wanted to — from applying paint to the canvas, trying to correct a few flaws, or bumping into our railing (missing my eye by a few inches) and finding blood on my forehead. But, the worst was losing my notes for a special event!
The good news is: this painting was completed, perhaps out of focus, a bit surreal with vase and flowers appearing to be floating on a surfboard in the calm of the ocean. But. the gentle nature in which the painting has texture is was really my concern...and I like the layers, the minimal recognition of an underpainting, and the feeling of hope springing eternal.
