I started this little number yesterday, filling the birch panel with words of wisdom for a friend turning 60. But, as you can see, there is only a small token of the history behind the painting. The truth is: I labored over this piece, My friend had asked me to paint in her garden, and at the time, I just couldn't imagine doing so. Instead, I went around the garden looking at everything that rang a bell with my intention for this assignment. And, I photographed any and everything that worked in my mind.
Then...the moment of truth and the deadline...yikes! I thought my photo of this flower would be a perfect cover on fold over notecards, and that solution would be fun. But, I decided this challenge needed my attention. And, although I was tighter with this painting than others, (I think because I chose not to use my palette knife) the truth is: I like the movement of color and the feelings the painting emotes.
I hope my friend will enjoy the painting too.
