Day Four … Sounds of Silence
A three-day-weekend has presented itself with that old “college” feeling – yeah a day off. But, wait…no! I still have work to do each day of this lovely long weekend…a painting-a-day. I remember now!
But joyfully, I approached painting today with a hint from Manny Farber* –- look at the still life from a totally different perspective. And, so I did. I love the work of artist and film critic Manny Farber His paintings work in beautiful colors from a vantage point that looks down at his arrangements – and I mean colors that you would die for. I was really lucky to have met Manny when we moved to CA. He was a wonderfully kind and thoughtful man, an amazing painter, and a great inspiration for artists everywhere.
Manny Farber’s work pushed me to continue challenging myself with taking art classes. His show at the Museum of Contemporary Art, La Jolla in the early 2000’s, shouted at me to really explore color and find my voice. And, so, if this is now 2015…who is counting the years? My journey is always beginning with every canvas I start. And this painting, another created on top of an older painting I felt needed assistance, satisfied my curiosity for today…thank goodness.
