I am enjoying creating art with a new outlook:
whimsical, colorful and
multi-dimensional/non-age specific

Thinking takes time, painting takes even more time, and making connections
with new and consistent clients is the best part of the art process for all of us!

The Vero Beach Art Club had a "small size painting" show in October, 2020.
And, lucky me received the first place in Oil!
Truthfully, I was delighted.

Cree's collages continue ... with a bit more white space than before

Today, Cree is sharing another image in her new exploration of compositional space.
It is funny what motivates her to create a new focus. She often attends classes to learn more about being an artist. She has enjoyed studying with Ann Rae of Art Biz Academy, Alyson Stanfield of Art Biz Coach, and Jason Horejs with Xanadu Gallery. She has appreciated the many artists in her classes as well as her coachs.  One artist, a paper maker, Helen Hiebert from Helen Hiebert Studio, has become a friend and her paper supplier. Cree is thrilled to work with Helen's handmade paper.
Cree combines her drawings while working with
miscellaneous paper culled from her vast collection of "stuff".

A Cree painting was accepted in
the Vero Beach Art Club's "Art by the Sea Show"

Seeing another "Cree" painting in a juried show at the Vero Beach Museum of Art is always exciting.
She was very thankful to be in town to see the magnificent show,
plus receiving many nice compliments was lovely.
And, for her to see the vast array of magnificent pieces was purely magical.

Wonderful Surprises Include Working with Friends
and Meeting New Art Lovers
As you can see Cree has created a new painting that looks very much like her painting Days of Thunder that is currently touring thru Mexico. Sometimes when a new project lands on one's lap it is important to balance all the bits and pieces that are involved.
This particular situation worked out well. The Mexican tour that
Days of Thunder is traveling with does not have a current deadline. Cree's CA friends have been terrific in sending paintings created by a group of artists from San Diego to Mexico City and beyond. The tour started in July 2019, long before a wonderful Florida interior designer spotted the painting on Cree's website and discussed the piece with her client. Both client and designer were patient with Cree's explanation that she couldn't get the painting out of the scheduled voyage.
Picture
So...what was an artist to do??? The next best thing Cree could come up with was to paint the same painting over and work as closely as possible to capture the essence but not to create an exact duplicate.
Days of Thunder--Two,
mixed media on canvas, 45" x 45"
.....
Lessons Learned:
#1   Trust your designer when she finds a painting that would be perfect to share with her client.
#2   Believe in yourself that a new painting can be created with patience, flexibility, and determination!
#3  Reward yourself for getting thru the project with a stronger relationship with your interior designer and yourself.
#4 Be grateful for experiencing new growth in your artistic development and accepting the gracious compliments regarding your work delivered by your new buyer and sturdy interior designer. Plus, be thankful for the opportunity to work with your interior decorator.
#5 Appreciate your dedication to painting and creating that add depth to your soul!

Look at Cree's art that is traveling around the world -- at least Mexico and Spain

Days of Thunder and The Tower of Babble have been touring through Mexico along with works created by several San Diego artists.
Cree feels so fortunate to have met Laura Lehman and Luis Alderete, founder of Paisanos Mex/USA. Together they have graciously introduced her work and works created by many other San Diego artists
for the last two years in Mexico.
This tour is about to end, however they are gearing up for another tour which is heading for Spain.

Mixed News from Wall Street, collage on birch, 12" x 12" is scheduled for the special
European show.

"How very fortunate I am!" exclaims Cree.

Friday, February 1, I was an exhibiting artist at Raw Space Gallery. I was delighted
to walk into the gallery and see my art lining a good section of the rear wall!
Fellow colleague, Mark Kirby had paintings on another wall, as well as several great artists
who are now part of my Vero Beach library of painters!
This exhibit represents my second opportunity to show my work in Vero.
In this past year my work has
become more abstract and perhaps more colorful
(if you can believe that statement)
and more "me!" I am feeling comfortable with my approach,
my continuing exploration of color, lines and shapes!
And, I feel as though I have so much more to explore.
See my Art Portfolio Page and you will see what I am talking about!

Honorable Mention, The Emerson Center, May 2018
In Florida now, my relocation from California has found me knocking on doors
to introduce myself, see local art and meet members of the Vero Beach art community.

The piece above, which was part of a series actually created in California, was a wonderful opportunity
to delve into the unknown. The fun of creating a landscape I had seen in many moments along the road while driving back and forth across
the country with Ned (my husband) and Barrett (our black Labrador). Evenings were meant for checking into the hotel allowing me to conjure up interior spaces, as well as a review of our life full of
adventure and humorous thoughts of grown up children and a little hint of travel!

Always fun to be invited to The Artists' Guild Gallery in Vero

Finding art in Vero...the best art time of the month is the first Friday!
In early March, I saw a call for "small" art at The Artists Guild Gallery. I participated in sharing my painting to the left. And in 2019, the gallery invited me to share one painting in a group section of the gallery that was used for the display of artwork by other Vero artists.

The Final Charm of It All

Picture"Only on Sunday", mixed media, 16 x 24"
This is a delightful piece that I worked on for years.

Funny, but in the studio, I can hang a painting on the wall and work at it for days on end or year after year just hoping to capture the significance of the moment.

I was finally lucky!

My last open house in CA brought the buyer into the
studio and "Only on Sunday" went to a special new home on the Pacific Ocean, where it will live happily ever after.

I stretched my blanket!
This testing process was a CA 2016 process...

I am always looking for a challenge.
Thus, I prepared 12 x 12" "sketches" on birch boards for this painting series.
The larger finished pieces were each completed in acrylic and collage
on 30 x 30" canvas. I loved the process, the challenge and the results.

Artist's Statement

Picture

A sketch for the next "look alike," or the
continuation of a series that has been very popular.

.
It is always fun to be included in an art show. Sometimes the art I am sharing stimulates a question from an observer: "May I commission you to paint that piece again?"

I believe my first obligation is to respect the original buyer of a painting. But, I do encourage the free flow of conversation to engage an interested party in identifying the specifics of what attracted him/her to an original "Cree" painting. In fact, during a recent art show, one of my pieces was identified by a visitor as "exactly the painting" she wanted. However, the painting was sold. But, days later, I received a telephone call asking if maybe a new painting could be created.

I worked with my potential client: starting with a review of color likes/dislikes, dimensional requests, details to be included (collage, no collage), color preferences and voice of the painting (quiet vs loud).

Next sketches (like that on the left) were hatched, alterations discussed, and the painting process began on a 30" x 40" commission.
Fortunately, the final "draft" was well approved!

A Sense of Humor

Picture
"Alice Where Art You?," mixed media, 30" x 40" resides in Florida! SOLD

If you hadn't notice already....I do have a sense of humor!

With a life full of traveling, especially around the USA by car, I believe my husband, Ned and I have collected some of the wildest photographs and memories of our journeys.
We have walked many miles in almost every state. We have climbed mountains, followed streams and walked along railroad tracks. We have stopped at junk yards, open houses, antique stores and small town restaurants just to get a feel for life in other
places. We have driven most of Route 66, why not??? Inspired as kids by the television series, the two of us have wanted to connect with our country and the most amazing folks who live here!
Probably parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway remain our favorite road trips...but don't worry. Now that we have moved back to the east coast, we have plans to check out other highways during travels to Montreal, Canada and back to Vero Beach, Florida.

Community Service....
For years and years, Cree supported the San Diego Alzheimer's Association while living in this special part of the country! She took it upon herself to assist the organization in finding artists who would contribute artwork to an annual  fundraiser to develop art education for persons with Alzheimer's. 2020 was a successful year for the Alzheimer's Association, and as always many of the ArtSix members contributed their time and art.

Not too Long Ago..
Picture
Truly is seems like yesterday when I joined this marvelous group of artists to participate in our first gallery show together at Noel Baza in March 2011. Each artist has her own persona and her paintings declare exactly who she is. Alison Haley Paul knocks out landscapes that literally will knock you out with their gentle, soft meandering colors and bold use of matt knives all over her surfaces.
Brenda York is stuck on her characters. Each is unique and it is a wonder that there are enough dis-similarities that you can begin to identify her characters just walking into a room.
Then there is Maite Agahnia whose flair is magnificently genuine! Her paint application also speaks loudly and clearly and her images build with one layer and then another. (I am in this group, but you are on my website page and you can see my work.) And, tallest of all is Bronle, and her pieces are subdued, lyrical, personal and of natural elements.
Wow! And, I was included with these lovely artists for the first time as we began ART SIX!
